Paris Saint-Germain's goal for this season is to "win everything", Desire Doue declared after scoring the all-important goal in their Super Cup success against Aston Villa.

PSG were put through their paces in European football's traditional curtain-raiser on Wednesday, but for the second time in two years, they overcame English opposition to add the Super Cup to their Champions League crown.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia lashed past Marco Bizot after taking in Doue's pass for PSG's 20th-minute opener, though 17-year-old Brian Madjo – who had earlier spurned several good chances – equalised on the stroke of half-time.

However, Doue proved to be the hero by tucking a left-footed finish past Bizot and into the far corner just past the hour mark, with the goal being awarded following a VAR review.

Doue was initially flagged offside when he latched onto Ousmane Dembele's lovely through-ball, but replays showed Matty Cash had dropped back and played him onside.

The France international became the first player to record a goal and an assist in the same Super Cup match since 2015, when Luis Suarez did so for Luis Enrique's Barcelona – against Unai Emery's Sevilla.

In addition, he is the first player to record multiple goal involvements in the Super Cup since Sadio Mane scored twice for Liverpool versus Chelsea in 2019.

PSG won Ligue 1, the Champions League, the Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and the Trophee des Champions in a glittering 2025-26 season, having also won five trophies the previous campaign (won the Coupe de France, Intercontinental Cup not held).

And Doue says those standards will remain the same this term, telling Canal+: "The state of mind we have is to always win, to be as competitive as we can be. 

"We are very happy. Coming back from vacation, we knew it wouldn't be easy, but we put things in place tonight. The goal, above all, is to win everything this year."

PSG are just the fourth club to win the Super Cup in back-to-back years, alongside Ajax (1973, 1974), AC Milan (1989, 1990) and Real Madrid (2016, 2017).

And Luis Enrique is only the third head coach to win the trophy three times, having also triumphed with Barcelona in 2015 (against Sevilla) and PSG in 2025 (versus Tottenham).

Only Carlo Ancelotti (five times) and Pep Guardiola (four) have won the competition more often. 

Goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was another key performer for the European champions, making three saves to keep Villa at bay. 

And even though they were behind their opponents in terms of their pre-season preparations, the Russian felt they showed a good level. 

"It's just like usual. It's very good, at the beginning of the season, to have a title," he said. "We haven't trained much, but I think we've shown that we're ready for the season."

PSG could win another piece of silverware this weekend, too, as they face Lens in the Trophee des Champions on Sunday. They then open their Ligue 1 title defence against Rennes the following week.
