Klopp names two Germany squads for Nations League campaign

Jurgen Klopp has named 16 uncapped players across two separate Germany squads ahead of his first matches in charge in the Nations League.

Germany will play four matches across the extended September and October international breaks, against the Netherlands, Serbia and two clashes with Greece.

And Klopp has named 44 players in two different groups as he tries to see as many of his new players as possible.

There is no place for Deniz Undav – with Klopp explaining his omission is fitness-related – while Leroy Sane and Oliver Baumann were other notable absentees.

Among the new faces, there are first-time call-ups for Koln's Said El Mala, Freiburg trio Max Rosenfelder, Philipp Treu and Derry Scherhant, Mika Baur of Celtic, Brentford's Vitaly Janelt and Elversberg's Felix Keidel.

Klopp has also included five goalkeepers in his squads, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen, currently on loan at Ajax from Barcelona, named as his first choice, though he only features in the first squad.

Captain Joshua Kimmich has retained his place, but has been named as a midfielder, having largely served in defence for Klopp's predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned following Germany's World Cup exit to Paraguay in the last 32.

There are also recalls for Karim Adeyemi, Anton Stach and Kevin Schade.

One of the squads will be used for Germany's first two games against the Netherlands, on September 24, and their home tie with Greece.

The second will then be used for the matches against Serbia and the return trip to Greece.

"It's very unusual that you've got four games in two weeks with the national team," Klopp said at a press conference in Frankfurt.

"I want to get to know as many players as possible in that time... It's not an A-team and a B-team, but the two squads have been created in a way that each fits well together."
