Mbappé Joins Ronaldo and Messi in Exclusive Champions League Club
Kylian Mbappé made Champions League history after scoring against Bayern Munich, joining a select group of legendary scorers.
Kylian Mbappé has joined an exclusive UEFA Champions League club alongside legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Ruud van Nistelrooy after scoring in Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
The French forward reached 14 goals in the 2025–26 campaign, keeping Madrid’s hopes alive ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena.
Milestone at the Bernabéu
Mbappé delivered a crucial goal in the 74th minute, ensuring the tie remains open heading into the clash in Germany. With that strike, the 27-year-old reached 14 goals in a single Champions League edition, entering a very exclusive group.
This marks only the ninth time in history that a player has hit that figure. Cristiano Ronaldo achieved it three times and still holds the record for most goals in a single season (17).
Other legends to reach the 14-goal mark include José Altafini, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.
Climbing the all-time ranks
The numbers highlight Mbappé’s remarkable rise since scoring his first Champions League goal against Manchester City nearly a decade ago. Across 97 appearances for AS Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, he has now accumulated 69 goals, placing him sixth on the competition’s all-time scoring list.
His 2025–26 campaign is particularly impressive, as he has already doubled his output from the previous edition, cementing his role as Madrid’s most decisive attacking figure.
Chasing the ultimate record
Mbappé is now just three goals away from equaling the all-time single-season record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013–14. To surpass that iconic mark of 17 goals, he will need four more.
One more goal would also see him match the 15-goal seasons recorded by Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema, further solidifying his place among the competition’s greatest scorers.
