Kvaratskhelia unfazed by Ballon d'Or talk after Champions League heroics
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's fine displays for Paris Saint-Germain have seen him tipped to win the Ballon d'Or, but he pushed back those claims.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia played down the possibility of winning this year's Ballon d'Or ahead of Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League final against Arsenal on Saturday.
PSG are aiming to become just the second team in the Champions League era to defend their title against Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions at Puskas Arena.
And a key part in their run to the showpiece match has been Kvaratskhelia, who has the joint-most goal involvements in the competition in 2025-26 (16, level with Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe and Bayern Munich's Harry Kane).
In fact, the Georgian international has been involved in more goals than any other player in the knockout phase this season (10), scoring seven and delivering three assists.
He is also the first player to score or assist in seven consecutive knockout stage appearances in the same Champions League campaign, thus thrusting him into contention to emulate team-mate Ousmane Dembele in picking up the Ballon d'Or in 2026.
But ahead of PSG's meeting with Arsenal, Kvaratskhelia insisted that his success with the Parisiens since joining from Napoli was not just down to his individual efforts.
Asked by TNT Sports' Julien Laurens about the praise he is receiving, Kvaratskhelia said: "I feel a little bit, but it's not about me, I want to be simple, I just play because I love it.
"When I go to the pitch, I try to enjoy it with my amazing team-mates, the amazing club, my amazing coach, with his staff. I just try to enjoy it every time I train, I try to play.
"Maybe life has changed a little bit in this time, but I want to stay the same, humble, and I'm just doing the job I love, I'm just trying to enjoy it."
Kvaratskhelia has already won seven titles for PSG, four of which have been this season, with Luis Enrique's side winning Ligue 1 as well as the Trophee des Champions.
The 25-year-old has, however, not delivered similar numbers in the league this season, registering just 12 goal contributions (eight goals, four assists), though that still is the second-highest tally in PSG's squad behind Dembele's 17.
But Kvaratskhelia has stepped up in the Champions League, and he said that UEFA's flagship competition ignites a fire inside him to go and perform on the European stage.
"For every football player, the Champions League nights are the dream to play in," Kvaratskhelia added. "I'm one of them; it was a dream to play in the Champions League.
"I'm in the final for the second time, so a little bit I [have] achieved it. But I still have that hungriness that I want to go on the field.
"Every time the Champions League anthem starts to sing, I'm just turning on. It's something different than everything, that's why they call it the Champions League."
Since 2020, PSG have reached the Champions League final more times than any other club, appearing in three editions, and they will fancy themselves again here.
They have prevailed in each of their last five Champions League knockout ties against English clubs. Manchester City were the last English side to eliminate the Parisiens in the 2020-21 semi-finals.
