Head coach Hansi Flick announced the squad list on Sunday, and the biggest surprise was the inclusion of Gavi in the traveling group.

The Spanish midfielder is still completing the final stages of his recovery from a meniscus injury in his right knee suffered at the end of September. Although he has not yet been medically cleared to return to competitive action, the coaching staff decided to include him in the trip so he can continue reintegrating with the team. Flick had previously indicated that Gavi would travel with the squad but suggested that his official return to the pitch will likely happen after the upcoming international break in early April.

Barcelona heads into the European clash after an important LaLiga victory against Athletic Club at San Mamés. However, the German coach will still have to deal with several key absences due to injuries. Frenkie de Jong, Andreas Christensen, Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde will all miss the match, forcing tactical adjustments ahead of the crucial knockout encounter.

The two clubs already met earlier in the league phase of this season’s Champions League. That match ended in a 2-1 victory for Barcelona thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford, while goalkeeper Joan García delivered a standout performance between the posts. Now, Barcelona will aim to repeat that result and take an advantage in a tie that promises to be highly competitive.
