The Only Player Faster than Kylian Mbappé in the Champions League
The footballer who recorded the peak speed plays for Borussia Dortmund and just surpassed the Paris Saint-Germain star by a mere 0.2 km/h.
Karim Adeyemi, the 22-year-old German international winger for Borussia Dortmund, who is facing Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, is the fastest player in this edition of the tournament, with a sprint of 36.3 kilometers per hour, followed by Kylian Mbappé of Paris Saint Germain, who is facing Barcelona, with a speed of 36.1 kilometers per hour.
They are the only two players to have surpassed 36 kilometers per hour in a run in the top continental competition this season, according to UEFA's official statistics, after eight matches played for all teams still alive in the tournament, on the verge of entering the quarter-finals.
Adeyemi, who has started in the last three matches for his team, faces Atlético after scoring five goals and providing two assists in his 25 appearances this season, only eleven of them as a starter, while Mbappé challenges Barcelona with impressive numbers that highlight not only his speed but also his numerous other qualities.
The French international is not only among the top scorers of the tournament, with six goals alongside Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), and Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), but he has also accumulated 39 goals in as many matches in all competitions with PSG, besides providing eight assists to his teammates.
Below the 36 kilometers per hour mark, Lois Openda (Leipzig) and Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) follow closely with 35.7 kilometers per hour; Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint Germain) and Daizen Maeda (Celtic) with 35.6 kilometers per hour; and Mohamed Simakan (Leipzig), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), and Sandro Tonali (Newcastle), each with a speed of 35.5 kilometers per hour.
Among the Spanish teams, nobody appears until the eighteenth position. The fastest of all is Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde of Real Madrid, who has run at 35.2 kilometers per hour.
Next is Rodrigo Riquelme, who is also the fastest Spanish player in this edition of the Champions League. He has sprinted at 34.8 kilometers per hour in his debut in this competition with Atlético Madrid, with whom he now faces Adeyemi.
Vinicius Júnior (Real Madrid) follows behind, with 34.7 kilometers per hour, followed by his teammate Fran García and his compatriot Raphinha, a winger for Barcelona, with a speed of 34.6 kilometers per hour.
Uruguayan Ronald Araujo reaches 34.5 kilometers per hour, like Dutchman Sheraldo Becker, signed in the last winter transfer window by Real Sociedad.
