Two teams with important absences

Both squads arrive with limited preparation after the recent World Cup. Luis Enrique has included his returning internationals in the squad, as well as new signings Lucas Digne and Maghnes Akliouche.

Unai Emery will not have Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa or Ollie Watkins available, while Morgan Rogers has left the club for Chelsea. Those absences could have a major impact on Villa's chances against a PSG side that has already established itself as Europe's benchmark.

PSG start as favorites

The pressure will be especially high on Aston Villa, with Emery looking to finally win a European Super Cup after losing his previous three appearances in the competition. The Spanish coach has won five Europa League titles, but the Super Cup remains missing from his résumé.

PSG, meanwhile, want to continue their dominance at the highest level. The French side enters the match with the confidence of a team accustomed to playing for major trophies, but Villa have the opportunity to create an upset and begin their season with a historic victory.

If the match finishes level after 90 minutes, there will be no extra time. The champion will be decided directly by a penalty shootout, adding even more drama to a final that promises to open the European season in style.
