José Mourinho Goes After Xabi Alonso and Tries to Take a Player Away From Real Madrid
Andriy Lunin considers his future away from Real Madrid: Mourinho wants him at Fenerbahçe
Andriy Lunin’s future at Real Madrid remains uncertain. Despite his ambition to succeed at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Ukrainian goalkeeper is aware that his role as Thibaut Courtois’ backup limits his chances of becoming a regular starter. With the European transfer window nearing its close, Lunin is seriously contemplating a departure, according to Diario AS.
Mourinho insists: He wants Lunin at Fenerbahçe
In this context, José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe has emerged as a leading contender to sign the goalkeeper. The Turkish club is facing a challenging situation with their current goalkeeper, Dominik Livakovic, whose performances have failed to convince the club or its fans.
The Turkish outfit has reportedly sent a letter of interest to Real Madrid to inquire about Lunin’s contract terms and assess the feasibility of a transfer. Mourinho views the Ukrainian as a priority in the transfer market to bolster the goalkeeping position ahead of the Champions League and the Turkish league.
Livakovic on his way out
The signing of Livakovic from Dinamo Zagreb has not delivered the expected results, and both the player and Fenerbahçe are seeking an immediate exit. The club is currently negotiating with Nottingham Forest for a potential loan deal that would include partial payment of the Croatian’s salary.
Given this situation, Mourinho has put Andriy Lunin’s name forward as the ideal replacement. Knowing that Real Madrid is unlikely to guarantee him a starting role over Courtois, the Ukrainian goalkeeper might see Istanbul as a prime opportunity to relaunch his career.
