Scare in Italy: Klinsmann suffers cervical fracture
The Cesena goalkeeper faces a long recovery after a serious neck injury in Serie B.
Italian football witnessed a frightening moment as Jonathan Klinsmann, goalkeeper for Cesena FC, suffered a serious injury during a match against Palermo FC in Serie B.
The 29-year-old, son of legendary former striker and coach Jürgen Klinsmann, was involved in a heavy collision late in the game with Filippo Ranocchia. The opponent’s leg struck his head during a contested ball, leaving him motionless on the pitch and requiring immediate medical attention.
Klinsmann was stretchered off wearing a neck brace and taken to a hospital in Sicily. Medical examinations later revealed a fracture in his first cervical vertebra, a serious condition that demands a careful and lengthy recovery process.
The goalkeeper confirmed via social media that his season is over, while also expressing gratitude for the support he has received from fans, teammates, and medical staff.
While the injury is a significant blow for Cesena’s playoff ambitions, the focus now is entirely on Klinsmann’s health.
Despite the severity of the incident, there is relief that his condition is stable as he begins his recovery journey.
