Summer of Changes at Inter Milan: Cristian Chivu Prepares a Major Squad Reshaping
Next summer is expected to be a busy one for Inter Milan. The team managed by Cristian Chivu needs a significant restructuring, and several departures within the Nerazzurri squad are already beginning to take shape.
Uncertainty in Goal and Defense
One of the clearest cases is Yann Sommer. Everything suggests the Swiss goalkeeper will not renew his contract, and the club is already looking for a replacement. The name gaining the most traction is Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who is emerging as the leading candidate to take over the Inter goal.
There are also unresolved issues in defense. Both Carlos Augusto and Yann Bisseck have received contract renewal offers from the club, but neither has accepted so far. In the Brazilian’s case, he has requested a contract worth close to four million euros. That figure could be part of a strategy to pressure the club while exploring other options on the market, especially since he is not a regular starter in the team. Despite this, Inter Milan intends to keep both players as part of the project.
A Delicate Situation in Midfield
In midfield, the most delicate case involves Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish midfielder is reportedly interested in returning to Galatasaray for the final stage of his career. Although he still has one year left on his contract in Italy and Inter Milan plans to begin talks to extend his deal, a convincing offer from Istanbul could change the situation and open the door to his departure.
Another issue to resolve is Andy Diouf. Since arriving from Lens, the midfielder has never played in his natural position and is not among the preferred players of Cristian Chivu. For that reason, the club would welcome a move that could free up space for a player who better fits the coach’s tactical vision.
Important Decisions in Attack
There are also key decisions to make in attack. Marcus Thuram is under contract until 2028 and earns one of the highest salaries in the squad, around €6.5 million. If Inter Milan wants to secure a significant transfer fee for the striker, now could be the right moment to sell him. Otherwise, the club may have to consider a renewal or make a firm commitment to keeping him, provided the player is willing to negotiate.
This list of potential moves also includes Davide Frattesi and Denzel Dumfries, who are reportedly considering leaving the club in search of new challenges.
Inter Milan has a lot of work ahead. The club’s leadership wants to renew several players, but at the same time it will need to allow others to leave in order to create room in the squad and secure the reinforcements requested by Cristian Chivu. The upcoming summer promises to be crucial in defining the direction of the Nerazzurri sporting project.
