Robinho Jr. Makes the Move to Europe and Signs for Genoa

Robinho Jr. is beginning a new chapter in his career away from Brazil.

Genoa announced on Thursday the signing of the young Brazilian forward, who arrives from Santos for his first experience in European soccer.

At just 18 years old, Robson Junior Guglielmetti de Souza, better known as Robinho Jr., moves to Italy on a loan deal that includes an option to buy. The move represents an investment in the future for the Italian club, which will look to continue the development of one of the young talents to emerge from the Santos academy.

His last name will inevitably attract attention. Robinho Jr. is the son of Robinho, the former Brazilian international who represented clubs including Santos, Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan during his career.

Robinho Jr. Begins His Adventure Outside Brazil

Born in 2007, the forward spent practically his entire soccer development within Santos, following a path closely connected to the club where his father also began his career.

Before leaving for Italy, Robinho Jr. made 38 appearances and scored four goals across his first-team involvement and the Brazilian under-20 championship.

Now he will have to adapt to a completely different environment.

Italian soccer will present a new physical, tactical and competitive challenge for a player who is still very much in the development stage of his career. That is precisely why Genoa believe there is plenty of room to work with the Brazilian and help him take the next step.

The deal was completed after Robinho Jr. successfully passed the required medical and fitness tests before signing with his new team.
