After weeks of speculation, Alexander Isak decided to speak out loud and clear on his social media:
"I have been silent for a long time while others spoke. This silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it does not reflect what was really said and agreed in private," he stated.
The Swede went even further, accusing the club of failing to keep its word: "The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To act now as if these issues are new is a lie. When promises are broken, trust is broken, and the relationship cannot continue."
With those words, the former Real Sociedad player made it clear that he considers his situation at St. James’ Park unsustainable: "That is the right thing for me now, and that is why a change is best for everyone, not just for me."
The Swedish striker’s top priority is to sign for Liverpool before the transfer window closes. However, the main obstacle remains the price: Newcastle value him at £150 million, while the Reds’ first and only formal offer only reached £110 million.
The English club quickly reacted with a statement making their stance clear: "We are very clear that Alex is under contract and no agreement was made for him to leave Newcastle United this summer."
In their message, Newcastle acknowledged the player’s wishes but emphasized the collective interest: "We want to keep our best players, but we also understand that they have their own desires and we listen to their intentions. As we have explained to Alex and his representatives, we always take into consideration the best interests of the club, the team, and our supporters in all our decisions."
