Haaland and Salah top the list of footballers who pay the most taxes in the UK

Erling Haaland, Manchester City striker, and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool star, lead the list of the footballers who paid the most taxes in the United Kingdom over the past year, according to the Sunday Times Football Tax List.

The Norwegian international, also the youngest taxpayer on the ranking at 25 years old, sits at the top after paying nearly $23.6 million in taxes over the last twelve months. His substantial tax bill is driven by an estimated weekly salary of $685,000, in addition to $13.6 million from image rights and bonuses.

In second place is Mohamed Salah, with a tax contribution close to $20 million, cementing his status as one of the highest-tax-paying athletes in the country.

Next on the list are Casemiro, midfielder for Manchester United, and Raheem Sterling, who recently ended his contract with Chelsea, with estimated tax payments of $14.8 million and $13.3 million, respectively.

Just $142,000 behind Sterling is Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, while Portuguese stars Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) and Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) also feature prominently, each with tax payments of around $12.3 million.

Both Haaland and Salah also cracked the top 100 highest taxpayers in the UK, ranking 72nd and 81st, respectively, alongside global figures from music, sports, and business such as Harry Styles, Anthony Joshua, and J.K. Rowling.

In the business category, Fred and Peter Done, founders of betting company Betfred, topped the Sunday Times Annual Tax List for the first time after paying an estimated $548.6 million in taxes over the past year.

The report shows that the top 100 taxpayers in the UK collectively paid $7.88 billion, up from $6.82 billion the previous year.
