Manchester United Players Wanted André Onana Out to Avoid “Problems”
Manchester United’s dressing room breathes a sigh of relief: André Onana’s exit avoids a bigger problem in goal.
Farewell to Old Trafford
Cameroon international André Onana will spend the rest of the 2025-26 season with Trabzonspor in Turkey. The loan deal includes no purchase option or fee, but the Turkish club will cover 100% of his wages.
His departure comes after months of speculation and a series of costly mistakes that saw him lose confidence at Old Trafford and slip down the goalkeeper pecking order.
One Less Problem for United
According to the Manchester Evening News, several Manchester United players wanted him gone, as having four senior goalkeepers on the books would have created a “problem” in the squad dynamic.
Onana’s exit frees up space between the posts and eases internal tensions in the locker room, where it was already clear that his role was going to be secondary.
The Future Between the Posts
The Red Devils spent the summer searching for a new No.1, with names like Emiliano Martínez and Gianluigi Donnarumma linked to the club. In the end, they settled on Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens, who is now preparing to make his debut as United’s new first-choice keeper.
With Onana gone, United finally hopes to find stability in a position that has been a source of uncertainty in recent seasons.
