Jürgen Klopp Emerges as One of the Favorites to Take Over at Chelsea
After Enzo Maresca’s exit, an unexpected name is gaining traction at Stamford Bridge. For some it sounds unrealistic — for others, it’s the dream appointment.
The name that inspires hope- and divides opinion
The name of Jürgen Klopp has started to gain real momentum as a possible new head coach of Chelsea following the club’s decision to part ways with Enzo Maresca. Despite Klopp’s deep-rooted connection with Liverpool, his winning pedigree, charisma, and elite-level experience have made him an appealing — if controversial — option.
Klopp is currently working as sporting director at RB Leipzig, but his name has once again entered the managerial conversation after Chelsea’s sudden vacancy. While no formal talks have been confirmed, the idea alone has generated significant buzz.
The "dream" move many see as unrealistic
Former Chelsea winger Joe Cole was the figure who reignited the discussion, openly stating that Klopp would be his “dream” appointment — even while acknowledging that the suggestion might sound “mental.”
Cole argued that clubs with genuine title ambitions must at least consider elite-level managers, regardless of how unlikely the scenario appears. In his view, failing to aim that high reflects a lack of true ambition.
That said, he admitted Klopp’s Liverpool legacy and Chelsea’s current structure make such a move extremely difficult, even if it remains an attractive fantasy.

Maresca's exit and the wider debate
Cole also questioned the speed with which Chelsea moved on from Maresca, pointing out that the Italian coach had delivered silverware, including the Conference League and Club World Cup. He suggested that modern football increasingly limits a manager’s real authority, regardless of results.
This context helps explain Chelsea’s broad search strategy — weighing the appeal of a proven elite figure like Klopp against candidates who better align with the club’s current long-term vision.
Rosenior, the more realistic option
While Klopp represents the ultimate aspiration, Liam Rosenior remains the most practical candidate. His current role at Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club under the BlueCo ownership group, places him firmly in contention.
Rosenior fits the profile favored by the new ownership: young, tactically driven, detail-oriented, and eager to prove himself. According to Cole, he checks every structural box — even if he lacks Klopp’s global stature.
A wisht that defines Chelsea's crossroads
Whether or not Klopp ever seriously considers Stamford Bridge, the mere speculation highlights Chelsea’s current crossroads. The club is torn between the allure of a proven icon and the continuation of a developmental project.
What remains certain is that Chelsea’s next managerial decision will shape the direction of the club for years to come.
