Fernandes and Maguire lead Amorim tributes after Man Utd sacking
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was sacked on Monday, and his former players have paid their tributes following his departure.
Several Manchester United players, including Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire, have posted messages on social media to thank Ruben Amorim after the coach was sacked on Monday.
The decision came after a run of poor results, including a 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday, and a criticism of the club's hierarchy in his post-match press conference.
Amorim led the Red Devils to the Europa League final last season after being appointed in November 2024, but they lost 1-0 to Tottenham in the showpiece.
In the Premier League, Amorim had the worst win ratio (32%), the worst goals conceded per game ratio (1.5) and the lowest clean sheet ratio (15%) of any United boss.
Maguire was among the first of the players to post to their Instagram story, saying: " Thank you for everything, boss. I wish you all the best in the future."
Fernandes followed shortly after to say: "Thank you, Mister! Wish you and your technical staff all the best."
Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team when they travel to Burnley on Wednesday, but they are reportedly looking to hire a caretaker manager for the rest of the season, while looking for a permanent replacement.
Gareth Southgate and Oliver Glasner have appeared as strong candidates for the permanent role, with the latter's contract with Crystal Palace expiring at the end of the season.
Former Barcelona boss Xavi has also been linked with the position, while Thomas Tuchel could be available following England's 2026 World Cup campaign.
Mason Mount, Amad Diallo, Diogo Dalot and Matthijs De Ligt have also released posts on social media to thank the former United head coach and wish him good luck in the future.
United are currently sixth in the Premier League, just three points behind Liverpool in fourth as they look to qualify for the Champions League.
They face Brighton at home in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, which remains United’s last realistic hope for a trophy this season.
