De Zerbi Reveals Tottenham’s Problem
Crisis at Tottenham Hotspur: No Direction and No Confidence
Tottenham Hotspur suffered another defeat in the Premier League and is now dangerously close to relegation after yet another loss. The team has not managed to win a single match so far this year, and the sporting crisis deepens with every passing round.
Roberto De Zerbi, who recently took charge of the team, was unable to change the dynamic in his debut and, after the match, delivered a clear message to his players. For the Italian coach, the issue is not tactical or technical, but mental.
“They don’t need tactical instructions or technical corrections. I can be like an older brother, a father… they don’t need a coach. They will play better when they regain confidence,” said De Zerbi, making it clear that the team’s mindset is the main obstacle.
Injuries and Pressure: An Increasingly Difficult Scenario
Tottenham Hotspur is going through one of the most severe crises in its recent history. The club currently sits in 18th place in the standings and is flirting with relegation, something that has not happened in decades. De Zerbi is fully aware of the situation and the limited margin he has to turn things around.
It has now been 14 matches without a win in the Premier League, and the gap to West Ham United, the team marking the safety zone, is minimal. Time is running out and the pressure increases with every matchday.
To make matters worse, the team suffered the loss of Cristian Romero, who left the pitch in tears due to an injury. The possible absence of the Argentine defender represents a huge blow, both for his importance on the field and for the emotional impact it has on the locker room.
Romero himself reflected the tension within the squad, not only because of the relegation battle but also due to the fear of missing the next World Cup if his injury turns out to be serious.
Tottenham Hotspur has six matches remaining, all of them finals. On paper, the schedule does not seem the most difficult, but with confidence at rock bottom, any opponent becomes a major challenge.
De Zerbi is clear: the key lies in restoring the team’s mental strength. If he can get his players to believe again, Tottenham Hotspur can still save the season. Otherwise, relegation will stop being a threat and become a reality.
