Brighton has once again demonstrated its ambition in the transfer market by completing the signing of highly rated Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic for €54 million. The 19-year-old joins from Tottenham on a long-term deal that runs through 2031, with an option for an additional season.

The move further highlights the Premier League's extraordinary spending power following the 2026 FIFA World Cup. English clubs have already invested well over €1.1 billion in new signings, continuing to dominate the global transfer market.

Vuskovic arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe's most promising young center-backs. Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler praised the defender's rapid development and expressed confidence that he can reach an even higher level at the club.

"Luka has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career. Last season showed that he can perform at a very high level, and we want to help him continue his development within our environment," Hürzeler said.

The Brighton coach also emphasized the importance of allowing the teenager time to adapt.

"There has been a lot of excitement surrounding Luka's arrival, but he is still very young and will need time to adjust to the demands of Brighton and the Premier League. We are confident he will handle that challenge successfully," he added.

After joining Tottenham from Hajduk Split in 2025, Vuskovic impressed during loan spells with Westerlo and Hamburg. His performances in Germany were particularly eye-catching, as he scored six goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances despite playing as a central defender. His outstanding campaign earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award and a place in the league's Team of the Season.

Brighton's significant investment reflects the club's belief that Vuskovic can become one of the Premier League's elite defenders for years to come.
