Alejandro Garnacho Targeted for Surprise Move After Chelsea Struggles
Alejandro Garnacho could leave Chelsea this summer, with River Plate exploring a move after a difficult season in London.
The future of Alejandro Garnacho at Chelsea is becoming increasingly uncertain. After arriving from Manchester United with high expectations, the Argentine winger has struggled to find his best form at Stamford Bridge, and a summer exit is now being discussed.
Struggles in London
Garnacho’s move to Chelsea was seen as a fresh start following his high-profile fallout with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. However, his time in west London has fallen short of expectations, as he has been unable to secure a consistent place in the starting XI during an inconsistent season.
Statistically, the 21-year-old has underperformed. While he has recorded eight goals and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions, most of that output has come in domestic cups. His poor return of just one goal in 20 Premier League matches has raised serious concerns about his future at the club.
River Plate enter the race
Amid this situation, a surprise suitor has emerged. Reports from South America claim that Eduardo Coudet, head coach of River Plate, has already made contact with Garnacho to explore a potential transfer.
According to the report, Chelsea would be open to a one-year loan, allowing the player to rebuild confidence away from the pressure of English football.
Obstacles ahead
Despite River Plate’s interest, the deal would not be straightforward.
Financially, Garnacho’s salary represents a major obstacle for any South American club. There is also an emotional factor: the player has publicly stated that his family supports Boca Juniors, River Plate’s historic rivals.
From a sporting perspective, a move back to Argentina would not necessarily guarantee his return to the Argentina national team setup under Lionel Scaloni.
