West Ham Complete Signing of Mexican Midfielder Edson Álvarez from Ajax
West Ham United have officially signed Mexican midfielder Edson Álvarez from Ajax, finalizing a five-year contract, as confirmed by the Premier League club. Although specific financial terms were not disclosed by West Ham, Ajax revealed that the two clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of €38 million ($41.90 million), with the potential to rise to €41 million including additional incentives.
Having contributed significantly to Ajax's successes by clinching the Eredivisie title twice since his arrival in 2019, the 25-year-old has accumulated 147 appearances and netted 13 goals across all competitions. Álvarez's impressive track record extends to the international stage, boasting 69 caps for Mexico and participating in the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.
Álvarez's addition is set to provide a welcome boost for West Ham, especially after the departure of England midfielder Declan Rice, who was transferred to Arsenal. This strategic move marks West Ham's efforts to strengthen their midfield and enhance their performance on the Premier League stage.
