Pep Guardiola Calls for Signings to Fix Manchester City's Struggles
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has pointed to the transfer market as a key solution to the team’s poor form, having secured just one win in their last 13 matches.
Defensive and Midfield Issues
Ahead of their 1-1 draw against Everton on Boxing Day, Guardiola made it clear that the team will look to strengthen during the winter transfer window:
"We definitely need to sign players. We're having problems in defense and midfield. But even though I’m saying this, I don't know what will happen. The winter market isn't easy, and everyone knows that."
The Spanish coach emphasized the difficulties the team is facing, especially with eight first-team players unavailable for the match, the highest number this season. This forced Guardiola to include six youth players on the bench, along with backup goalkeeper Scott Carson, who has played just one league match since the 2018-2019 season.
Far Behind the Leader
The draw against Everton leaves City in a tough spot, potentially 17 points behind leaders Liverpool. Despite the results, Guardiola praised his players’ effort:
"We played well in all areas, but we couldn't win. We accept it, that's life. We didn't expect to lose so many games, but we have to keep going."
City will look for solutions in January to close the gap in the Premier League and keep their hopes alive in the other competitions.
