Ahead of Real Madrid’s interest, Liverpool steps on the gas and reportedly closes this defensive signing
Liverpool has taken the lead in the race to sign young left-back Milos Kerkez, who played last season with Bournemouth. According to reports from Sky Sports and journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Anfield club has already reached a full agreement with the English team for around 54 million dollars (40 million pounds). The 21-year-old Hungarian defender was a regular starter in the Premier League and caught the eye of several top European clubs, including Real Madrid.
The deal is expected to be finalized next week, when Kerkez will go through the usual medical exams and sign a five-year contract. This would make him the third summer signing for the team coached by Arne Slot, after bringing in Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.
A natural replacement for Robertson
With 41 games played, 2 goals, and 6 assists last season, Kerkez has established himself as one of the most promising players in his position. His attacking style and physical stamina fit perfectly with Liverpool’s game plan, which focuses on bringing in young talent. His arrival is seen as the natural backup for Andrew Robertson, who’s been a key player for years but has started to rotate more often lately.
This move not only strengthens the English side but also throws a wrench in Real Madrid’s plans, as they saw Kerkez as a backup option in case they couldn’t land Álvaro Carreras. With this signing, the ‘Reds’ prove once again they can outsmart other European giants in the transfer market.
A bet on the future
Signing Milos Kerkez fits right into Liverpool’s strategy of betting on young players with big potential. It also shows their commitment to staying competitive at the top level after Jürgen Klopp’s departure and the start of a new era under Arne Slot. While Real Madrid is still weighing their defensive options, Liverpool is sending a clear message to the market: they’re still a top destination for the best young talents in European football.
