Sporting Kansas City 3-4 Philadelphia Union: Cavan Sullivan continues remarkable run in seven-goal thriller

Cavan Sullivan scored his sixth goal in as many games as the Philadelphia Union continued their superb run in MLS with a 4-3 comeback victory over Sporting Kansas City.

All four of Philadelphia's goals came in a thrilling second half at Sporting Park, with the Sullivan siblings again in the thick of the action.

Sporting raced into a 3-0 lead inside 16 minutes, with Andre Luiz netting twice and Wyatt Meyer also on target.

Yet Bruno Damiani's 64th-minute effort sparked a remarkable fightback from the Union. 

Substitute Quinn Sullivan, who had hit the post just after his half-time introduction, then combined with Danley Jean Jacques to tee up Cavan Sullivan two minutes later, with the teenager dispatching a neat close-range finish into the bottom-left corner.

Philadelphia were level two minutes on, with Quinn Sullivan brilliantly flicking a rabona pass into Milan Iloski, who somehow slammed home from a tight angle.

Five minutes later, the turnaround was complete as SKC failed to deal with Kai Wagner's cross, and Zorhan Bassong could only turn into his own net.

Cavan's class shines through

The Union are now unbeaten in 11 games (W8 D3) since they returned to action following the World Cup break.

They have reeled off five straight MLS wins, which is their longest winning run in the competition since 2022.

Fresh from his call-up for the United States, Cavan Sullivan, meanwhile, is now on 19 regular-season goal involvements in MLS (seven goals, 12 assists).

As well as netting the Union's second goal, the youngster had also played a role in their first, with a surging run from the left before he offloaded to Frankie Westfield, whose cross was turned in by Damiani.

Cavan Sullivan's 12 assists this term mark a new record for a teenager in an MLS regular season, while his 19 goal involvements mean he has equalled the regular-season record for a teenager previously set by Alphonso Davies during the 2018 season.

Elsewhere in MLS on Saturday, leaders Nashville SC clinched a playoff spot and strengthened their grip on the Supporters' Shield with a 3-0 win over the Chicago Fire.

Orlando City SC went down 4-2 to the New England Revolution, while the Seattle Sounders fought back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with the Colorado Rapids.
