Chicago Fire Courts Lewandowski: “The United States Is Ready for Him”
Gregg Berhalter confirmed talks with Robert Lewandowski and believes the Polish star could become one of the biggest attractions in Major League Soccer.
Robert Lewandowski is still weighing his options after leaving Barcelona, and Chicago Fire has emerged as one of the strongest candidates to secure his signature. The Polish striker recently visited the club’s facilities and met with head coach Gregg Berhalter to discuss a potential move to Major League Soccer.
Berhalter openly acknowledged the meeting and expressed optimism about the possibility of bringing the veteran forward to the United States. According to the coach, both the league and the city of Chicago are ready to welcome a player of Lewandowski’s stature.
“The United States is prepared for him. He has had a brilliant career, and this could be the next challenge in his incredible journey,” Berhalter said.
Chicago Fire views Lewandowski as a transformational signing capable of elevating the club’s ambitions. During their discussions, Berhalter presented the organization’s long-term vision and explained how the striker could play a central role in helping the team compete for the MLS title.
The coach believes Lewandowski’s experience, leadership and finishing ability would perfectly complement one of the league’s most productive attacking units. Chicago is aiming to become a world-class club and sees the Polish star as a cornerstone of that project.
Despite approaching his 38th birthday, Lewandowski remains highly productive. During the 2025-26 campaign, he appeared in 46 matches and scored 19 goals, proving he can still perform at an elite level.
For now, no final decision has been made. The striker continues to evaluate offers from several continents, but Chicago Fire remains hopeful that the next chapter of his remarkable career will be written in the MLS.
