Football star Lionel Messi has joined the US environmental organization Join The Planet for an initiative in Rosario, Argentina, in support of the conservation of the Paraná River, the largest river system in South America after the Amazon.

As part of this partnership, it is expected that the current world champion with the Argentine national team will unveil a "unique collectible product" next Friday through an online broadcast, the organization announced on Tuesday.

"With effort and a sense of community, we can take care of the planet," Messi said in a statement, who is the first ambassador of Join The Planet.

The one to be unveiled on Friday will be the first of a series of items to be announced in the future, which will come with a digital certificate of authenticity and "property rights linked to the product in its physical form," according to the organization, based in Miami.

The proceeds will be used for environmental projects in the Paraná River basin, considered the largest hydrographic basin in the world, which passes through Rosario, the hometown of the current captain of MLS club Inter Miami.

"Messi's involvement means reaching millions of people who are not part of the environmental discussion. We look forward to the positive impact his advocacy will have on our shared goals," said Thomas Kimber, director of the Join The Planet Foundation, in the statement.

Part of the campaign is the sustainable products company Karün, responsible for making the "surprise item" to be presented on Friday, which was made from recycled materials from Patagonia, Indonesia, China, Thailand, and India, among others.

It will also feature recycled nylon plastic, mainly from fishing nets, recycled polypropylene plastic from ropes and disposable bottle caps, and recycled fiberglass, as announced today.

Join The Planet promotes the transition to "a regenerative economy, with material collection in various countries," and directly supports environmental initiatives, including river and ocean cleaning and reforestation, with the support of local communities.

The unique collectible piece, designed to "transform our relationship with the planet," as the organization says, also guarantees "transparency and sustainability" thanks to Karün's "traceability" system throughout the supply chain.

This allows for "digital carbon labeling on each product and interactive tracking of the material's journey," as Join The Planet explains.

This organization plans to announce new partnerships with public figures for initiatives in favor of natural ecosystems in the future.
