Monaco Set to End Ansu Fati Loan Spell
Ansu Fati’s future is back under the spotlight after an uneven spell in France and a key decision already taken in the Principality.
A Loan Spell Losing Momentum in France
FC Barcelona sent Ansu Fati on loan to AS Monaco last summer hoping the move would help him regain confidence and regular minutes. The early signs were encouraging, but his influence gradually faded in an inconsistent side drifting away from the top of the table.
A mid-season coaching change further disrupted his role. Since then, the Spanish forward has slipped down the pecking order, going close to a month without playing — a situation that pushed the club toward a firm decision.
Monaco Decide Against Making the Deal Permanent
According to French journalist Romain Molina, AS Monaco have chosen not to trigger the purchase option included in the loan, set at €12 million. A modest fee for a player who once wore Barcelona’s iconic No. 10 shirt after Lionel Messi’s departure — now carried by Lamine Yamal.
The call reflects both Fati’s reduced role and the broader sporting context at Monaco, who have already undergone a managerial change this season.
Long-Term Contract, Growing Interest
As reported by AS, Ansu Fati remains under contract with Barcelona until 2028. Several clubs in Spanish football have already made inquiries about his situation, though the academy product initially backed Monaco’s project — a gamble that ultimately failed to fully take shape.
The side coached by Sébastien Pocognoli currently sit ninth in Ligue 1 with 23 points, recording seven wins, seven losses and two draws.
Numbers That Still Tell the Story of His Talent
In a Barça shirt, Ansu Fati has made 123 appearances, scoring 29 goals and providing 10 assists since his debut on August 25, 2019, in LaLiga against Real Betis.
His first loan spell came at Brighton in the Premier League, where he featured 27 times and scored four goals. During his time at Monaco, he has played 14 matches, scoring six goals without registering an assist.
A Future Yet to Be Defined
The French loan did not unfold as planned, but the talent remains unquestioned. With the purchase option off the table, FC Barcelona once again hold the final say on Ansu Fati, whose future is shaping up to be one of the key storylines heading into the 2026/27 season.
