Why Kylian Mbappé Traveled to France While Injured
Kylian Mbappé’s absence continues to raise questions at Real Madrid. While the team faces crucial matches, an unexpected trip by the French star has sparked fresh concern about his recovery.
A lingering injury raising concerns
The situation surrounding Kylian Mbappé continues to worry Real Madrid. The French forward has not played since the defeat against Osasuna on February 21 at El Sadar, and his absence has stretched longer than expected at a decisive moment in the season.
The striker has already missed key matches against Benfica, Getafe, and Celta, and his availability for the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City also appears unlikely. Amid that uncertainty, another detail caught attention: Mbappé was spotted in Paris during his recovery process.
The reason behind his trip to Paris
The forward is dealing with a sprain in his left knee, an injury currently being treated with a conservative approach in order to avoid surgery. However, his sudden trip to France quickly fueled speculation.
According to Antoine Simonneau, correspondent for L'Équipe, speaking on Carrusel Canalla on Cadena SER, the trip had a specific purpose: seeking a second medical opinion outside the club. The journalist explained that the player was not fully convinced with the treatment he had been receiving in Madrid.
Simonneau reported that the forward visited a renowned specialist in France—the same doctor who previously treated former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema—in search of a solution to an injury that has lingered longer than expected.

A problem that has lasted for months
Another key detail is that the issue may not be recent. According to the French reporter, Mbappé has been dealing with the injury for nearly three months, which could explain why his recovery has taken longer than initially anticipated.
He also suggested the player may have taken risks by continuing to play through discomfort for several weeks, partly driven by personal and sporting goals, which may have worsened the condition.
Now the forward is determined not to rush his return. His priority is to come back only when he is fully fit, aware that crucial matches remain in LaLiga, the Champions League, and upcoming international competitions.
An uncertain return for Real Madrid
Although Mbappé has already returned to Madrid following his visit to Paris, his participation against Manchester City remains highly unlikely. The coaching staff led by Álvaro Arbeloa does not want to risk their biggest star unless he is completely ready.
At Real Madrid, the priority is clear: bring their star forward back at full strength for the decisive stretch of the season. Until then, his unexpected trip to France has added another layer of intrigue to an injury situation that continues to raise questions.
