Real Madrid Faces Major Squad Dilemma if Diomande and Rodri Arrive
Los Blancos remain aggressive in the transfer market, but signing both Yan Diomande and Rodri could force the club into making difficult decisions before the season begins.
Real Madrid Running Out of Room
Real Madrid continues to be one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window. After securing the signing of Carlos Espí to replace Gonzalo, who is set to join Fulham, the club remains focused on two marquee targets: Yan Diomande and Rodri.
But bringing in both players would create an unexpected challenge. As things stand, Real Madrid has already filled all 25 available first-team squad spots allowed under league regulations.
That means every new signing must be matched by an outgoing player before it can be officially registered.
No Available Spots for New Signings
The current squad already includes two goalkeepers, ten defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards registered as first-team players.
Although Gonzalo's departure opens a place that will be taken by Carlos Espí, that move does not create any additional flexibility for further arrivals.
If Real Madrid signs either Diomande or Rodri, one player will have to leave. If both deals are completed, the club will need to offload two members of the current squad.
Mastantuono's Situation Adds Another Complication
Franco Mastantuono's registration status also affects Madrid's planning for the new season.
After making enough first-team appearances last year, the Argentine wonderkid is no longer eligible to occupy a reserve-team registration and now officially counts as one of the club's 25 first-team players.
That leaves the sporting department with even less room to maneuver during the remainder of the transfer window.
More Departures Could Be on the Way
With negotiations for Diomande and Rodri still ongoing, Real Madrid may have to prioritize player departures before announcing additional signings.
As the club looks to strengthen an already star-studded squad, the coming weeks could be just as important for outgoing transfers as they are for new arrivals at the Santiago Bernabéu.
