Luis Suárez Emerges as Barcelona’s Plan B
FC Barcelona continue working on different scenarios to strengthen their attack, and one of the names to emerge in recent hours is Luis Suárez, the Colombian striker currently playing for Sporting CP.
The forward would reportedly be one of the alternatives being considered by the Blaugrana sporting department if the club ultimately fails to complete a deal for Julián Álvarez, who remains the priority for the striker position.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Colombian’s name has been among the options studied by Barça, although there are currently no advanced negotiations.
Julián Álvarez Remains the Priority
The situation surrounding Luis Suárez directly depends on what happens with Julián Álvarez.
As previously reported, Barcelona have spent weeks trying to find a formula that would allow the Argentine to leave Atlético Madrid, but the Spanish capital club’s position has made the operation considerably more difficult.
That is why Deco needs to have alternatives ready.
Suárez represents an interesting option because of his goalscoring ability, physical strength and presence inside the penalty area. The Colombian also knows Spanish soccer well after his previous spells with clubs such as Granada and Real Zaragoza.
However, moving from an option under consideration to an actual negotiation would be another matter entirely.
Sporting Do Not Want to Let Luis Suárez Leave
The main obstacle is in Portugal.
Sporting CP reportedly have no intention of negotiating the striker’s departure, meaning any club interested in signing him would have to deal with a release clause worth around €80 million.
That is a significant amount for a Barcelona side that are also working on other important deals during the transfer window.
For now, there is also no formal offer from the Catalan club. Suárez may be among the alternatives being considered, but that does not mean Barça have decided to make an official move for him.
An Alternative That Depends on Julián
Barcelona’s roadmap still has Julián at the center of everything.
As long as there is a realistic possibility of signing the Atlético striker, the World Cup winner will remain at the top of the list.
If that door eventually closes for good, Barça will then have to decide which alternative deserves a serious push.
That is where Luis Suárez could enter the picture.
For now, the Colombian is an option rather than an active operation.
But with the transfer window moving forward and Julián Álvarez’s situation still unresolved, Barcelona want to be prepared for every possible scenario.
