Luis Enrique: “I Don’t Think We Are Favorites Against Liverpool FC”
The Paris Saint-Germain coach downplays expectations ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash and highlights the importance of the first leg.
Luis Enrique, head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, dismissed his team’s favorite status ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool FC and stressed the importance of the opening leg.
“The first leg at the Parc des Princes will be key,” he said during the pre-match press conference.
Luis Enrique highlighted his team’s consistency at this stage of the competition: “We’ve managed to establish ourselves regularly in these rounds. Our goal is to play attractive football.”
He also spoke about PSG’s playing style and the role of the fans: “We have a way of playing that can lead us to win or lose, but when the fans support this kind of football, everything becomes easier.”
Reflecting on last season’s meeting with Liverpool, he felt his side deserved a better outcome: “It was a high-level match and it’s incredible that we lost it. I would sign up to play at that level again, but with a different result.”
Finally, he insisted there are no clear favorites in such ties: “In my opinion, being labeled as favorites is not important. In these matches, it’s impossible. I don’t think we are favorites. Last year everyone said Liverpool were, and in the end PSG went through.”
The clash between PSG and Liverpool promises high intensity, with both sides aiming to take a step closer to European glory.
