Joan Laporta Continues His Campaign for the Barcelona Presidency by Offering Food
The electoral atmosphere at Barça is intensifying, and Laporta is seeking members’ support through closeness… and plates of macaroni.
The race for the presidency of FC Barcelona has entered a decisive phase, and the pre-candidates are taking every opportunity to gather support. The match against Levante at the Spotify Camp Nou drew 44,936 fans, creating an ideal setting to collect the signatures required ahead of the March 15 elections.
Joan Laporta, along with Víctor Font, Xavi Vilajoana, and Marc Ciria, must submit 2,337 valid signatures by March 2 to formalize their candidacies. The next major opportunity to reach club members will come Saturday when Barça hosts Villarreal.
Signature booths and growing electoral buzz
The club set up three booths for each pre-candidate around the stadium, with the exception of Font, who opted for two strategic locations. While all camps gathered signatures, the lines forming at each booth reflected trends and preferences among members.
Vilajoana highlighted the positive mood among supporters, suggesting there is a growing desire for change within the institution. Regarding potential signings such as Harry Kane, he noted that any move will depend on timing and real market opportunities.
Meanwhile, Víctor Font presented his proposal to revitalize the supporters’ section. His plan envisions at least 5,000 members creating a “Bombonera”-like atmosphere to pressure opponents. He also criticized the club’s ticket pricing policy, arguing that it prioritizes tourists over club members.
Laporta leans on closeness with supporters
As campaign activities unfolded, Laporta chose a different approach to connect with fans. The former president hosted a community meal at Bar Bocata, a popular spot in Barcelona’s upper district, where he cooked macaroni and mingled with supporters.
In a festive atmosphere, the pre-candidate served plates, sang with attendees, and reinforced his image of closeness with the fan base. Beyond symbolism, the gesture forms part of a strategy to strengthen emotional ties with members at a crucial moment in the electoral process.
A decisive week ahead of the elections
With the calendar moving quickly, the candidates are intensifying their campaigns to secure a place on the final ballot. The next home match for FC Barcelona represents another key opportunity to consolidate support.
Between institutional proposals, sporting visions, and gestures of proximity with supporters, the presidential race is entering its decisive stretch. And amid the competition for signatures, Laporta is betting on something simple yet effective: connecting with members through closeness… and a shared plate of food.
