Haaland Will Not Join Barcelona: His Agent Denies Laporta’s Claims
FC Barcelona will hold presidential elections on March 15, and candidates Joan Laporta and Víctor Font are doing everything possible to win over the club’s members. One of the names both have put on the table to attract votes is Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.
The Dream of Signing Haaland Returns to the Debate
It is no secret that Joan Laporta already tried to sign him in 2021, when the attacker was still playing for Borussia Dortmund. However, the financial situation of FC Barcelona did not allow the club to compete with Manchester City, which ultimately secured the prolific goal scorer.
Ahead of these elections, Laporta has once again mentioned the possibility of bringing in Erling Haaland. The current president stated that the club’s finances are much healthier and that signing the Norwegian striker would not be unrealistic. FC Barcelona is looking for a top-level No. 9, especially since Robert Lewandowski could leave Camp Nou in the near future.
Víctor Font, Laporta’s rival in the presidential race, also stated that his project includes the possibility of signing Erling Haaland. Naturally, these types of statements draw the attention of club members who will head to the polls in the coming days to decide the club’s future.
The Striker’s Agent Cools Down the Rumors
However, people close to the player have completely cooled down the topic. Rafaela Pimienta, agent of the Manchester City striker, publicly denied both candidates’ claims and stated that there has been no contact with Barcelona.
She also recalled that Erling Haaland recently renewed his contract with the English club until 2034, which makes a potential departure from Manchester extremely difficult. The Brazilian representative also explained that the player is very happy in England and that, for now, they are not even considering a transfer.
A Nearly Impossible Transfer for Now
These statements complicate the narrative of both candidates for the Blaugrana presidency, who will now have to find other arguments to convince the members. Another major obstacle is the striker’s price tag. A transfer for Erling Haaland could reach around €200 million, a figure that FC Barcelona would hardly be able to afford while still recovering from the management of Josep Maria Bartomeu and prioritizing the completion of the Espai Barça project.
For now, the signing of Erling Haaland appears to be moving further away from FC Barcelona. Joan Laporta and Víctor Font will need to find new formulas if they hope to bring him in the future or, alternatively, look for another world-class striker who could join the sporting project of Hansi Flick.
