Bernardo Silva Prioritizes FC Barcelona
Bernardo Silva is living his final moments as a Manchester City player. The Portuguese star built a brilliant era at the Etihad Stadium, becoming one of the most important footballers under Pep Guardiola. However, his future now appears to be away from England, and his name is once again strongly linked with FC Barcelona.
According to Nicolò Schira, Bernardo Silva has made joining the Blaugrana side his top priority and is waiting for a formal offer from the club to wear the Barça shirt. The Portuguese midfielder is willing to wait as long as necessary for Barcelona to sort out their financial situation and present a viable proposal.
Financial Obstacles and Market Competition
The main issue remains financial. Barcelona still needs to balance its books to operate more freely under the 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule. On top of that, there is the sporting aspect, as the squad already has several attacking options and one of the market priorities appears to be strengthening the defense.
Even so, Bernardo Silva represents a profile that is highly valued within the club. His ability to play between the lines, combine with teammates, press, and provide attacking balance could perfectly complement Pedri and also ease the workload of Frenkie de Jong.
Juventus Enters the Race as Silva Waits
Schira also reports that Silva has no interest in moving to Saudi Arabia or MLS. His intention is to remain at the top level in Europe, and Barcelona stands as his ideal destination. Additionally, those close to the player view the city favorably, as he has family there, which would ease his adaptation.
Meanwhile, Spanish outlet AS reported that Jorge Mendes offered the player to Real Madrid, but the club quickly ruled out the possibility. The Madrid side is prioritizing a midfielder with more defensive characteristics.
The main obstacle for Barcelona could be Juventus. The Italian club is very interested and could offer a competitive contract until 2028, with an option to extend it to 2029, along with maintaining a high salary.
Bernardo Silva is clear: he wants to wait for Barcelona. However, time is not on his side. The Portuguese international will soon travel to the FIFA World Cup with Portugal and hopes to resolve his future before the tournament.
The final decision is in Barcelona’s hands. The club knows it is the player’s top choice, but it must first resolve its financial issues, free up wage space, and find a way to fit in a salary currently around €18 million per year.
