Barcelona Dream of Signing Victor Osimhen, But It’s a Mission Impossible
- Barcelona’s search for a new striker has led them back to Victor Osimhen. The problem? His price tag is sky-high, and only a miracle—or a player’s wish—could bring him closer to Camp Nou.
A Costly Dream for Barcelona
FC Barcelona have once again turned their eyes to Victor Osimhen as they look to reinforce their attacking options. The Nigerian striker, now 26 and playing for Galatasaray, remains on the club’s radar—just as he was in 2024, when the Blaugrana explored possible replacements in case Robert Lewandowski decided not to stay.
At the time, Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi assured Barça that his client wanted to continue, but uncertainty around his future has reopened the door for a new No. 9. Osimhen’s name is back among the club’s preferred options, though his astronomical price tag puts him in the same bracket as Erling Haaland and other elite targets far from Barcelona’s financial reach.
A Star Out of Reach
Galatasaray signed Osimhen for around €75 million and tied him down to a long-term deal until 2029. Given the size of that investment, it would take extraordinary circumstances—or the player’s own desire to leave—for a transfer to be possible. That, however, is a card Barcelona have often played in the past.
Osimhen remains one of the most complete strikers in Europe, with the instincts and finishing ability that fit perfectly with Barcelona’s attacking philosophy. His stats this season back it up: six goals in nine appearances across all competitions. In Europe, he found the net against Liverpool and Bodø/Glimt, missing only one match against Eintracht Frankfurt due to an ankle injury. In the Turkish Super Lig, he’s missed three games—one for injury, two for fitness issues—but has been decisive whenever he’s played.
Finances Over Fantasy
Any potential pursuit of Osimhen depends entirely on Barcelona’s financial reality. The club knows that signing a world-class striker would require a massive investment. That’s why sporting director Deco has reportedly cooled down both Lewandowski’s renewal talks and any plans to bring in a new No. 9—unless a unique market opportunity arises.
For now, Osimhen remains a dream—an elite forward admired from afar. And unless something changes, that dream will stay as expensive as ever.
