Barcelona Are Closely Monitoring Mexico’s Breakout Goal Scorer
The young Chivas striker has caught Barcelona’s attention after an impressive scoring season in Liga MX. His release clause and potential make him an affordable summer target.
The sporting department of FC Barcelona continues to prioritize the signing of a center forward ahead of next season. Strengthening the No. 9 position is seen as essential, with the club aiming to add both immediate firepower and long-term potential. However, the final profile will largely depend on the budget available in the upcoming summer transfer window.
One of the most ambitious names on the radar is Julián Álvarez, currently playing for Atlético de Madrid. Yet prying him away from the Spanish side would be far from straightforward, prompting the Catalan giants to explore more attainable alternatives.
In that context, Armando González has emerged as a serious candidate. The 22-year-old striker from Chivas de Guadalajara is enjoying a breakout campaign, scoring 17 goals in 24 appearances this season and establishing himself as one of Liga MX’s most in-form forwards.
Nicknamed “La Hormiga,” González has also attracted interest from European clubs such as CSKA Moscú, West Ham United and Celtic FC. His release clause for European teams stands at around €15 million, a relatively affordable figure in today’s market. Although he recently extended his contract until 2029, reports suggest a deal could be negotiated for a lower fee if Chivas retain a percentage of any future transfer.
With the World Cup approaching and a potential call-up to the Mexican national team on the horizon, González’s stock continues to rise. Meanwhile, Barcelona remain active in their search for the ideal striker to strengthen their attacking project.
