Arbeloa Sends Strong Message Over Rodrygo’s Future Amid Summer Exit Rumors
With speculation swirling ahead of the summer window, Álvaro Arbeloa has firmly defended Rodrygo’s importance at Real Madrid, backing the Brazilian to step up against Getafe in Mbappé’s absence.
The head coach of Real Madrid, Álvaro Arbeloa, has delivered a clear and defiant message regarding the future of Rodrygo, insisting the Brazilian forward remains central to his plans despite persistent rumors linking him with a summer move. With Kylian Mbappé sidelined through injury, attention has shifted toward the 25-year-old attacker, who is set to return for the upcoming La Liga clash against Getafe CF.
Rodrygo unfazed by transfer speculation
Arbeloa quickly dismissed suggestions that the former Santos FC star could be expendable at the Santiago Bernabéu, even as several Premier League heavyweights are reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the summer window.
Rodrygo himself has brushed off the constant speculation surrounding his future.
“I’m used to it; every year they say I’m leaving,” he said when addressing the ongoing rumors throughout 2025. “During the transfer window, every week I was at a different club. I even joked with my parents and friends: ‘Look, today I’m at this one, tomorrow at that one.’ But I’ve always been mentally calm, and it doesn’t affect me at all. I will keep giving everything every day I wear this shirt
Ready for Getafe challenge
Arbeloa welcomed Rodrygo’s return ahead of Monday’s fixture, especially with Mbappé unavailable. The Spanish coach backed him to play a decisive role, highlighting his versatility across the attacking line.
“Rodrygo must be very important. He was before the injury and can be a fundamental and decisive player. He has shown his quality at Real Madrid for many years,” Arbeloa stated.
“On the right wing, on the left, or through the middle — in all three attacking positions he gives us quality, vision, and presence in the box. He’s a very complete player, very difficult to defend.”
Tactical flexibility and praise for Vinicius
Arbeloa emphasized that his tactical approach is built around maximizing the strengths of his squad rather than forcing players into a rigid system. Substitutions, he explained, are about adjusting to the needs of each match.
He also praised Vinícius Júnior for his recent form, though he refused to take credit.
“I don’t know if I’ve found the key; the credit belongs to Vinicius, who is a fantastic footballer. My only merit is giving him confidence and affection,” Arbeloa concluded.
