A Manchester United legend questions Rashford’s resurgence at Barcelona
Marcus Rashford is once again at the center of debate in England. This time, a Manchester United legend has questioned his journey.
Bryan Robson’s comments reignite the debate
The performances of Marcus Rashford at FC Barcelona continue to spark debate in England, particularly among figures closely tied to Manchester United. The latest to weigh in is club legend Bryan Robson, one of the most iconic captains in United’s history.
In an interview with Boyle Sports, Robson openly questioned the situation surrounding the English forward. “I don’t understand Marcus Rashford as a player,” the former midfielder said, admitting he finds it difficult to explain why the attacker failed to reach his potential at Old Trafford.
Currently on loan at Barcelona until June 30, with a reported €30 million purchase option for the Catalan club, Rashford is enjoying a productive season under Hansi Flick.
A level that contrasts with his Old Trafford struggles
Although he is not an undisputed starter in Flick’s lineup, Rashford has made a notable impact at the Camp Nou. The England international has already recorded 10 goals and 13 assists in 2,013 minutes across 36 official appearances for the Spanish giants.
For Robson, it remains puzzling that a player who appeared to have lost confidence at Manchester United could quickly rediscover his form after leaving the club.
The former England captain pointed out that Rashford himself admitted he began enjoying football again once he moved away from Old Trafford. “When you’re at Manchester United and everyone says you’ve lost confidence in your own performances, then you leave and say you’re enjoying football again, it’s difficult to understand,” Robson explained.
Questions about a possible Manchester United return
Rashford’s departure from United came after a gradual loss of importance within the squad. Over time, the forward became part of the group of players no longer central to the club’s sporting plans.
His symbolic number 10 shirt was even handed to Brazilian signing Matheus Cunha last summer.
Because of that, while some observers believe his strong form at Barcelona could justify a return to Manchester, Robson is not convinced it would be the right move.
“If you’re not enjoying your football at Manchester United, something isn’t right with you,” the former midfielder said. He also warned that bringing Rashford back could raise questions within the dressing room. “I’m not sure I would bring Marcus back because other players might ask: ‘What about his attitude?’”
For now, everything surrounding Rashford’s time at Barcelona appears largely positive, leaving open the possibility that his future may continue away from Old Trafford.
