FC Barcelona Fall Short Against Club América
In what was a friendly match before the year-end, FC Barcelona, the current La Liga champion, faced América, the current Liga MX champion, in Dallas to close out the football year for both teams.
The Barça squad barely had a 36-hour break after their last La Liga match against Almería before jetting off to Dallas for this friendly. On the other hand, América played their last game on Sunday, December 17th, where they clinched the Liga MX title.
Barça came out with an alternate eleven, featuring eight players from La Masía, to give young talent a chance in this friendly. Alongside them were first-team regulars like Joao Félix, Frenkie de Jong, Lamine Yamal, and Andreas Christensen.
The match didn't skimp on goals and action, with a total of five scored between both sides, three in the first half. The 'culés' took the lead through Yamal's strike, but América's Julián Quiñones equalized in just six minutes. However, Barça's academy graduate Marc Guiu restored the lead for Xavi's squad at halftime.
In the second half, the Catalan side made ten changes from the bench, while the Mexican club made eight, and these changes saw América dominate the latter part of the game. They turned the tide with Quiñones' second goal and Henry Martín's strike, securing the win against FC Barcelona.
Both teams approached the game seriously, displaying goals, chances, and individual brilliance. At the end, it was all smiles, and we even saw Jonathan Dos Santos posing with Oriol Romeu and Sergi Roberto, sharing moments they had together at La Masia in Barcelona.
