Ancelotti on Mbappé's First Match at Santiago Bernabéu
Two days before Kylian Mbappé’s first match at Santiago Bernabéu with Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti said it will be a “very special day” for the French forward, who he believes will have a “great game” and make the fans “enjoy.”
“It’s going to be a very beautiful day for Mbappé to play for the first time at the Bernabéu in a Real Madrid shirt. The fans are very excited about him, and he will play a great game because of his quality. The fans will enjoy it,” the Italian coach predicted.
It will mark Real Madrid’s return to their stadium nearly three months after their last match and the celebrations of their latest La Liga and Champions League victories. “It’s always important to play at our stadium; we’re eager to return. It’s been a while since we last played here, and we want to show a good image, win the match, and have a happy day,” Ancelotti said, moving the team’s final training session to the Bernabéu.
“It’s not for any special reason, just to test the field because the pitch has changed since last year. I want the players to try it and see how they feel. There’s no superstition or anything like that,” he clarified about Saturday’s session.
Ancelotti stated that the team has used the week without matches to address issues from their draw against Mallorca in the La Liga opener, noting that the game against Valladolid will be a good test.
“We lacked balance, and we need to work on that. It’s not too complicated to find a solution when the problem is clear. There is a clear solution,” he said, dismissing concerns about the team’s play shifting towards the left side.
“This has been a characteristic of the team in recent years. With Vinícius, we play more down the left side because of his quality. It was also the case with Benzema, who preferred to play on the left center, and with Bellingham. It has worked very well; I’m not going to tell them to play on the other side when we’ve won two Champions League titles in recent years,” he defended.
Finally, he highlighted the good adaptation of Brazilian Endrick, who might soon debut with Real Madrid, and commented on Mario Martín’s loan move to Real Valladolid.
“Endrick is doing very well, like the others. I think he has adapted very well, has impressive quality, and will get the minutes he deserves given the competition in the team,” he said.
“The injury to Camavinga is a month, and he will return at the end of September. We can’t block a player’s growth for a month. We thought that playing for a year is very important for his development. We’ve done it; the player agreed, and he will come back stronger and more ready,” he concluded.
