Ancelotti Discusses Giving Mbappé a Rest
The coach noted that the Frenchman has shown significant improvement in intensity during recent matches.
Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid, expressed his full support for French forward Kylian Mbappé, admitting that he has yet to show his "best version." However, he highlighted an improvement in his "intensity" and did not rule out that "a rest," at specific times, "might be beneficial."
Mbappé’s commitment to the team
"He is aware, as seen in his post after the match (following the defeat in San Mamés), of what he is doing, what he can do, and what he will achieve. He is a player who is not showing his best version. Many don’t and remain unaware. He is aware and is doing everything possible to reach his peak as soon as possible. We stand by him," said Ancelotti.
"He covered 600 meters at high intensity against Getafe and 500 against Athletic. That’s a good stat. Supporting him doesn’t mean he has to play every match; sometimes, a rest can do him good," he commented.
Adapting to a new style
Ancelotti highlighted the challenges Mbappé faces in his first months at Real Madrid, adjusting to a different playing style, but also praised the player's sacrifice and effort.
"It’s a matter of consistency that will improve as he and his teammates adapt to his unique and special qualities. This connection will come gradually. The most important thing is that he is aware and working hard to overcome this as soon as possible," the Italian strategist said.
Confidence remains strong
Despite the challenges, Ancelotti is confident that Mbappé will soon return to his best form and pointed out positives in his recent performances. "The issue with penalties is situational. There are moments when a player feels motivated to take them, like in Bilbao, and moments when they don’t. He needs to endure, fight, and sacrifice because this phase will pass. What gives me a good feeling is the improvement in intensity he’s shown in recent matches," he concluded.
