Morocco’s Ismael Saibari Scores the Fastest Goal of the FIFA World Cup 2026
The PSV Eindhoven midfielder, a constant menace against Scotland and Brazil, scored his second goal of the tournament to make World Cup history.
Morocco midfielder Ismael Saibari continues to make headlines at the FIFA World Cup 2026 after scoring the fastest goal of the tournament — and the quickest in his country’s World Cup history — against Scotland in Boston.
DECISIVE
His strike, which put the Atlas Lions 1-0 up after just 69 seconds, surpassed Hakim Ziyech’s previous record of four minutes set against Canada in the Group F clash at Qatar 2022.
It also stands as the fastest goal of the tournament so far, edging Czech midfielder Michal Sadilek’s effort at five minutes in a 1-1 draw against South Africa in Atlanta.
THE GOAL AND THE MAN
Brahim Diaz delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Saibari, who burst in from the right flank, cut into the box, and unleashed a powerful right-footed strike into the top corner beyond Angus Gunn at the home of the New England Patriots.
It is the PSV Eindhoven midfielder’s second goal of the tournament, after he also opened the scoring in Morocco’s 1-1 draw with Brazil in New Jersey/New York.
MORE HISTORY
The strike by the midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, is now the second-fastest goal in Morocco’s national team history, behind Soufiane Alloudi’s effort in a 5-1 win over Namibia in the Group A stage of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
At just 68 seconds, it is also the second-fastest goal by an African player in World Cup history, only behind Asamoah Gyan’s strike for Ghana in a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic in Group D at Germany 2006.
