FIFA to Introduce Historic Prize: World Cup Champion Will Receive an NBA-Style Championship Ring
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain will make history in more ways than one. In addition to lifting the famous trophy, the champions will receive an exclusive commemorative ring for the first time ever.
FIFA introduces a brand-new tradition
Winning the FIFA World Cup will no longer be the only reward reserved for the best national team on the planet.
FIFA has announced that the champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive a luxury commemorative championship ring, marking the first time such an award has been presented in the tournament's history.
As a result, either Argentina or Spain will not only lift football's most prestigious trophy but also become the first national team ever to receive this new honor.
A tribute to American sports culture
The introduction of the championship ring is also a nod to the country hosting the World Cup Final.
Championship rings have long been one of the most recognizable symbols of success in American professional sports, particularly in the NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball. Now, FIFA is bringing that tradition to the world's biggest football tournament.
The team that wins the title on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium will officially launch this new World Cup tradition.

Only 2,026 rings will ever be produced
FIFA confirmed that only 2,026 championship rings will be manufactured, a number chosen to commemorate the 2026 edition of the tournament.
Of those, 30 will be reserved for the players and staff of the World Cup champions, while the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available to fans around the world as officially licensed collectibles.
Each ring will be individually numbered, custom-made for its owner and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
One side of the design will feature the FIFA World Cup Trophy, while the opposite side will be customized with the identity of the tournament's winning nation.
The champions will receive a ceremonial ring on the field
The trophy presentation will also feature a historic first.
Immediately after the final, the winning team's captain and head coach will receive ceremonial championship rings during the on-field celebration.
The 30 official rings will then be custom-sized and individually crafted before being delivered permanently to each member of the championship delegation.
According to FIFA, the goal is to create a lifelong reminder of one of the greatest achievements a footballer can experience.
Much more than a piece of jewelry
Although FIFA did not disclose the monetary value of the rings, it confirmed they will be luxury items.
In leagues such as the NBA, championship rings are often crafted from gold and decorated with diamonds and other precious stones, with some valued at well over $100,000.
Now, that iconic tradition is coming to the FIFA World Cup for the very first time.
When the final whistle blows in the World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain, the winners will not only lift football's most coveted trophy—they will also become the first team ever to inaugurate a new tradition that could remain part of the tournament for generations to come.
