MetLife Stadium In New Jersey To Host Copa America Centenario Final
The NFL stadium in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area will be the site of the 2016 tournament’s climatic game.
MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will host the Copa America Centenario final, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL announced in a statement Wednesday.
The match will take place Sunday, June 26, at the 82,000 seat venue, home of the National Football League’s New York Jets and Giants.
The statement also noted the full match date schedule will be revealed Thursday, Dec. 17. The nine other venues which will host contests are Foxborough (Gillette Stadium), Chicago (Soldier Field), Houston (NRG Stadium), Pasadena (Rose Bowl), Orlando (Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), Phoenix/Glendale (University of Phoenix Stadium), Bay Area (Levi’s Stadium) and Seattle (CenturyLink Field). Matches will be played from June 3 - 26.
The 16-team tournament, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Copa America, will include the entirety of CONMEBOL, and select teams from CONCACAF, including the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica.
Two other CONCACAF spots will determined by seperate playoffs between Panama and Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti.
