Boca Juniors needs a major reboot in tough Copa Sudamericana Last 16 clash
Argentinean giants, Boca Juniors, have been living dangerously throughout this season in both the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Boca needed to work its way through playoffs to stay alive in South American club competitions after finishing third in the team's Copa Libertadores group.
The Argentine side then required penalties to reach the Last 16 phase of the Copa Sudamericana after drawing 1-1 on aggregate with O'Higgins. The next opponents, Recoleta of Paraguay, are set to be an even tougher test for Boca.
The opponents over the next two legs finished top of their Copa Sudamericana group. Even more impressively, Recoleta was unbeaten against opponents of the stature of Santos and San Lorenzo.
The 'Number 9' dilemma
Boca will need to look once again to forward, Miguel Merentiel, who has scored the last two goals for Boca in CONMEBOL competitions. New signing, Enner Valencia, will be missing for the first leg match in La Bombonera, but is expected to be available for next week's away leg.
In the meantime, Boca know that it needs to step up a level to get past Paraguayan opponents who are not to be underestimated.
