With Flamengo and Palmeiras set to face off once again in the 2025 Copa Libertadores final on November 29 in Lima, Brazilian football continues to dominate South America’s most prestigious club competition.
Palmeiras advanced after a commanding 4-0 win over LDU Quito, while Flamengo secured their place with a valuable away draw against Racing.
Between them, Flamengo and Palmeiras hold six Libertadores titles (three each), and will battle for continental supremacy once more.
Ahead of the final, here is a look back at the last 10 Copa Libertadores champions.
10. 2015 | River Plate (Argentina)
River Plate defeated Tigres of Mexico in a two-legged final. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, River won 3-0 at the Monumental with goals from Alario, Sánchez and Funes Mori, securing their third Libertadores crown.

9. 2016 | Atlético Nacional (Colombia)
Colombian giants Atlético Nacional lifted the trophy after beating Independiente del Valle. The tie finished 1-1 in the first leg, and a goal from Miguel Borja in Medellín secured a memorable championship.

8. 2017 | Grêmio (Brazil)
Grêmio returned to the top of the continent by defeating Lanús. A 1-0 away win in Argentina, combined with a 2-1 home victory, gave them a 3-1 aggregate triumph.

7. 2018 | River Plate (Argentina)
One of the most iconic finals ever. River Plate faced bitter rivals Boca Juniors in the historic Superclásico decider. After a 2-2 draw at La Bombonera, the second leg was moved to Madrid due to incidents, where River won 3-1 in extra time to claim their fourth title.

6. 2019 | Flamengo (Brazil)
The first single-match final delivered drama. River were leading 1-0 in Lima until Gabigol scored twice in stoppage time, giving Flamengo a stunning 2-1 comeback victory.
5. 2020 | Palmeiras (Brazil)
An all-Brazilian final at the Maracanã saw Palmeiras defeat Santos thanks to a dramatic Breno Lopes goal in the 90+9th minute, earning their second Libertadores trophy.

4. 2021 | Palmeiras (Brazil)
Palmeiras defended their title by beating Flamengo 2-1 in Montevideo. Deyverson capitalized on a defensive mistake to score the winning goal and secure the club’s third Copa Libertadores.
3. 2022 | Flamengo (Brazil)
Flamengo returned to the summit, defeating Athletico Paranaense 1-0 in Guayaquil. Gabigol once again became the hero, scoring the only goal of the match.
2. 2023 | Fluminense (Brazil)
A tense and emotional final at the Maracanã saw Fluminense edge Boca Juniors 2-1. John Kennedy scored a late decisive goal to deliver the club’s first-ever Libertadores title.
1. 2024 | Botafogo (Brazil)
Botafogo completed Brazil’s continental supremacy by defeating Atlético Mineiro. After a 1-1 draw at the Monumental in Buenos Aires, Botafogo triumphed 4-2 on penalties, securing their first Copa Libertadores championship.
