What Boca Juniors Needs to Qualify for the 2025 Copa Libertadores
After their 4-3 loss to Vélez in the semifinals of the Copa Argentina, Boca Juniors lost one of their two chances to secure a spot in the next Copa Libertadores. Now, the team coached by Fernando Gago has only one path left: finishing among the top three in the annual table of the Liga Profesional, where they currently sit in fifth place with 60 points, three behind River Plate, which holds the last qualifying spot.
To achieve this, Boca must secure as many points as possible in their remaining three matches against Gimnasia (H), Newell’s (A), and Independiente (H). Additionally, the club will depend on teams like Vélez, Racing, Talleres, or River Plate winning the league, which could free up spots in the annual table.
So far, the Argentine teams already qualified for the 2025 Copa Libertadores are Estudiantes de La Plata (Copa de la Liga winner), Racing (Copa Sudamericana champion), and Vélez, who secured their place through the annual table. Meanwhile, teams like Huracán and Godoy Cruz are still competing for positions.
The thrilling match at the Mario Alberto Kempes ended with a comeback by Vélez, thanks to a brace from Agustín Bouzat, in a dramatic game played under heavy rain. Now, El Fortín will face Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero in the Copa Argentina final, a match with no confirmed date or venue yet.
