Preston North End 1-2 Blackburn Rovers: Gudjohnsen header secures third consecutive away win
Blackburn Rovers picked up their fourth win from their last five matches as they beat Preston North End 2-1 at Deepdale on Friday.
Blackburn Rovers continued to make their way up the Championship table as they beat Preston North End 2-1 at Deepdale.
Lewis Miller's opener for the visitors was quickly cancelled out by Alfie Devine before the break, but Andri Gudjohnsen's header shortly after the hour mark secured a third consecutive away victory for Blackburn in the league.
Preston looked the more dangerous side in the opening stages, with Lewis Dobbin and Liam Lindsay both going close before Michael Smith and Odeluga Offiah both saw efforts blocked in quick succession.
Andrew Hughes tested Aynsley Pears in the Blackburn goal before Offiah had another chance in the box, though this time his strike failed to hit the target, but a frantic end to the first half followed.
Miller broke the deadlock against the run of play, converting from Ryan Hedges' pass in the 45th minute, but Devine restored parity just 80 seconds later for Preston after his shot just about crossed the line.
But the deciding moment in the second half went Blackburn's way, with Gudjohnsen heading past Daniel Iversen from close range after the forward lost his marker and connected with Ryoya Morishita's pinpoint free-kick.
Data Debrief: Rovers rolling on the road
Blackburn found their rhythm in the second half, but Preston will be disappointed that they did not put the game to bed in the first period.
The hosts produced 1.7 expected goals (xG) from 15 shots, compared to Blackburn's 1.23 from 12 attempts.
Blackburn have now won three in a row for the first time since a run of four in November-December 2024 under John Eustace, while Gudjohnsen has now scored four of their seven goals in the Championship.
It was also a fantastic performance from Hedges, who assisted the first goal. He recorded the most touches for his side (86), most passes in the final third (29), won possession back more often than any of his team-mates (10), and created the second-most chances (two).
