LIVE! Sudan vs Algeria in the CAF African Nations Championship 2024
The Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar will host a clash steeped in history and expectations this Saturday, as Sudan and Algeria meet in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024—a showdown where mutual respect won’t overshadow the ambition of reaching the semifinals of the continental tournament.
Both teams arrive motivated and confident after progressing through the group stage, but they know that from now on, every mistake could prove decisive.
Algeria looking to assert their pedigree
Head coach Madjid Bougherra spared no praise for Kwesi Appiah’s work with Sudan, but he made it clear that his side did not travel to Zanzibar just to participate:
“Sudan has improved a lot, but there are no small teams. Our goal is clear: to qualify and keep fighting for the title,” said the coach, who guided Algeria to the CHAN final in 2022.

The change of venue was also seen positively by the Desert Foxes: “Moving to another city helps refresh the players’ minds and focus on what’s important,” added Bougherra.
Captain Mehdi Boujemaa echoed that vision, assuring that the squad is ready to give their all: “We’re motivated and want to go as far as possible, starting with tomorrow’s match.”
Sudan determined not to settle for history
On the Sudanese side, belief is running high. After a group stage already written into the country’s record books, head coach Kwesi Appiah was firm: “We didn’t come here just to reach the quarter-finals. We want more—we want to bring joy to our people.”
The Ghanaian coach made it clear he won’t abandon his attacking philosophy, even against a powerhouse like Algeria: “I’ve never believed in sitting back. We respect Algeria, but we’re going to go for the game.”
Forward Fares Abdullah summed up the mood in the squad: “We know the whole country expects this result. It’ll be a tough match, but we’ll give everything to win.”
A battle of styles and ambitions
The Zanzibar clash promises to be far more than just another quarter-final. For Algeria, it’s a chance at redemption after falling short in the 2022 final; for Sudan, it’s the opportunity to keep writing a dream run under Appiah’s leadership.
The respect between both sides is evident, but on the pitch there will only be room for intensity and the will to advance. Ninety minutes—or perhaps more—will decide who continues dreaming at CHAN 2024.
