Harry Kane's 99th Bundesliga goal helped Bayern Munich escape with a scrappy 2-1 win at Elversberg on Sunday.

It was not the prettiest of victories, but Harry Kane was once again the hero as Bayern Munich defeated Elversberg 2-1.

Despite dominating the ball, Bayern survived two scares when Lukas Petkov's volleyed cross hit the thigh of Kim Min-jae and squirmed past the post, while David Mokwa could not quite make purchase with Lasse Gunther's left-wing cross.

Cole Campbell emphatically blasted past Jonas Urbig shortly before the break, but the home fans' celebrations were curtailed when Noah Darvich was pinged for offside when winning a flick-on.
Bayern were absolutely stunned when Krattenmacher – on as a half-time substitute – let fly from 30 yards and buried one into the top-right corner.
Kompany made four changes after that, including Luis Diaz, who wastefully backheeled at Nicolos Kristof with Kane wide open, before Olise was unfortunate as a beautiful chip rebounded off the crossbar.
But, amid relentless pressure, Olise and Aleksandar Pavlovic combined before the latter laid the ball into Kane, who had an earlier goal ruled out, and he smashed home in the 72nd minute.
Noel Futkeu had a great chance to level for the visitors, only to poke wide of the right-hand post shortly after coming off the bench.
Kane one shy of a century as Bayern do just enough
It was a funny old outing for Bayern, who had only managed to draw 0-0 last time at Schalke in the league before rebounding to beat Bodo/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League.
Kane's 99th Bundesliga goal – his first of the 2026-27 league season – came in just his 97th appearance in the competition, while he has 150 in 153 appearances overall.
The England captain had a game-high six shots, but, surprisingly, the only one that was on target was the match-winning goal.
Bayern's superiority ultimately shone through, but only six of their 28 shots were on target for an expected goals (xG) of 2.42 to Elversberg's 0.94.
It was a special day for Joshua Kimmich, who made his 500th Bayern appearance, drawing him level with Bastian Schweinsteiger.
And while it might not have been pretty, Bayern are now unbeaten in their last 28 Bundesliga away games (W21 D7) – only once have they had a longer such run, going 33 matches without defeat on the road between 2012 and 2014.
