Diomande Sparks Excitement: “We Have the New Messi”
Ivorian teenager Yan Diomande is taking the Bundesliga by storm with RB Leipzig. At just 19 years old, his numbers and talent place him among Europe’s most exciting young prospects.
The name Yan Diomande is beginning to echo loudly across European football. The young winger from RB Leipzig, born in Abidjan in 2006, has become one of the biggest sensations in the Bundesliga thanks to a season that combines talent, pace, and an impressive ability to change games.
Just a few months ago, many were surprised when reports in Germany claimed that Leipzig had placed a €100 million price tag on the player, whom they signed for €20 million from CD Leganés. However, his rapid development is starting to justify that valuation. Since arriving in European football, Diomande has shown exceptional dribbling and ball-carrying ability, qualities that quickly caught the attention of coaches and club officials.
His story began to gain traction when coach Borja Jiménez handed him his professional debut in a match at the stadium of Real Madrid. According to people inside the club, after watching one of his early highlight videos, someone even said: “Be careful, we might have the new Lionel Messi.”
At Leipzig, under manager Ole Werner, the young winger has quickly gone from promising prospect to key player. He has started 22 of the 27 matches he has played for the club and has produced an outstanding debut season with 18 goal contributions: 11 goals and 7 assists.
His dribbling ability also places him among the best young players in Europe. Across the five major European leagues, only the prodigy from FC Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, has completed more successful dribbles.
As interest from Europe’s biggest clubs grows — including strong attention from FC Bayern Munich — Leipzig are already rubbing their hands at what could become another massive transfer in the near future.
